The Mâcon wine region is mainly a producer of white wines based on the Chardonnay grape variety. Its unique and special basement makes it a favorite terroir for white, round, light and fruity wines.
Very important in production compared to the other 4 wine regions in Burgundy, it provides for example more wine than the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits combined.
In addition to the many regional appellations (and especially all the Mâcon-Village), the Mâconnais is also known for beautiful village appellations, such as the famous Pouilly-Fuissé (Pouilly-Fuissé, Pouilly-Vinzelles,....), Saint-Véran, or Viré-Clessé.
